Rare Tiffany Sterling Custard Cups

These custard cups (without their glass liners) came into my workshop looking as if they had been used as framing hammers! There was evidence of numerous unsuccessful repairs, including sloppy brazing, cups that had stems that were snapped and reattached crooked, stems of different heights — the list is long. My job was to make the entire set uniform in height by casting all new stems, rechasing the entire original design on each stem, levelling the cup tops, repatinating, and hand finishing.

This job was a truly monumental undertaking. I use the same sensitivity when restoring even the most inexpensive spoon.  Photos: Jay Herman
