• Ivory Insulator Repair •

Whenever possible I repair insulators rather then replacing them. This method is preferred so the object will retain its original appearance. The above creamer handle matches a teapot also having a handle that contains its original ivory insulators. The socket portions of the ivories had deteriorated to a point that they required replacing. I drilled up into each insulator and glued zebrawood plugs then shaped the ends to fit into the creamer's sockets. The handle was then secured with sterling retaining pins. Should the ivories require replacing, I use rot-proof Elforyn Super Tusk, a composite material containing no ivory but mimics ivory's natural Schrager lines.
