Before & After
Meiji Sterling Teapot

This teapot (part of a three-piece set), was made for Samurai Shokai, Yokohama, Japan. Dents were removed then hand polished and protected against tarnish. Clear carnauba wax was applied to the insulators to prevent drying out and rotting. Removing all the patina would have left the surface flat and lifeless; retaining a minimal amount of darkening around the ornament gives it a more three-dimensional quality.
